Commercial work #1
Hangin Pizzeria in Betws-y-coed, Wales is the dream child of Jacha Potgieter. They kept the menu simple and focussed on offering high quality products; traditional Italian pizzas, fresh mouth watering salads, fine South African wine, wildlife-inspired beer, free-range meat and great tasting desserts. When Jacha commissioned me to shoot the images for the pizzeria website, I obviously obliged without hesitation. The website is great, with a contemporary look and feel. Watch this space for future developments! www.hanginpizzeria.co.uk
Corporate event – Help 4 Heroes @ Royal Ascot, Windsor
Masquerade ball sponsored by LeasePlan UK in aid of the Help for Heroes charity. The charity does invaluable work for the UK Armed Forces with sodiers returning from conflict situations suffering trauma. There are far too many pictures to place, but the few included give a good indication of the mood and fun experienced by all.
Family memories – #ditsimshoot
Making memories with the Rau-family at their holiday home “Ditsim” next to Sedgefield lagoon. What a special privilege to capture three generations of the Raus.
Aletia & Gareth #dehahnwedding
Wedding shot at the beautiful Ashanti Country Estate outside Paarl. Beautiful couple and families. All on a sweltering hot day in December!
Baroque meets Metal
Three cellists – Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen and Perttu Kivilaakso, all from the Sibelius Academy for classical music in Helsinki, Finland. Add drummer, Miko Sirén (with a degree in jazz music) and occasional vocalist, Franky Perez and you have Apocalyptica. This is cello music taken to a different level – from baroque to thrash metal, they cover all the genres. Shot live in concert @ the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire for Hard Rock Haven magazine.
When it comes to rock guitar gods, Saul Hudson aka Slash, must surely occupy a top spot in the hierarchy. “Sweet child o’ mine” one of the greatest rock riffs of all time. The solo on “November Rain” can also go down as one of the greatest in rock history. I’ve seen hundreds of brilliant photographs of Slash through the years. On this occasion I was shooting for Clash magazine and hoped to get some different angles on the subject. There were quite a few photographers in front of the stage, but I managed to get to the front at times and just concentrated on keeping the camera still.
Colour me red
The colours red and yellow are the strongest in the prime colour spectrum. In nature they are used in many ways – to attract mates, scare off predators, etc. In photography red is a particularly strong and potent colour. The red MG and Angus Steak House photograph was shot in London’s West End. The red phone booths also in London outside Charing Cross Station. Both photographs were edited to emphasise the colour red.
Fine & Country
During my last visit to Cape Town, I was commisioned for a corporate shoot with the team of Fine & Country (Durbanville) – www.fineandcountry.com With their headquarter in London, Nico and Annemarie Cilliers took a leap of faith a few years ago and started the local estate agency in Durbanville. They’ve built the agency into a well known local and international business. It was a fun and honour to work with such a professional team of people. Good Luck to Nico, Annemarie and the rest of the team!
Jeffery West shoes
Jeffery West shoes. Enough to make the eyes water. Started by Mark Jeffery and Guy West in Northampton the historical centre of the British shoemaking and leather industry, during the late 80’s. “Do what thou wilt” is the inscription on the soles. This should give you an indication of the design and construction of these classic shoes and boots. I bought mine from their store in the 1909 Piccadilly Arcade in London. It’s from the Goodyear Welted collection. Black polished leather and red finishing inside. I first saw these shoes with a photo shoot of the Rival Sons (Californian classic rock band) at the Jeffery West outlet in Selfridges during 2012. Shot at my home studio using one flash head, honeycomb grids and a black backdrop.
